I draw a lot of things and post them here. The idea is to make myself draw consistently every day and in the end have an online sketchbook for you all to browse through.

Yes Ma'ammary
I need to start drawing people again. Like real people. Because I'm pretty sure I'll be stuck at a 3rd grade drawing level if I don't force myself to draw realistically every now and then. But. Luckily for you, and me, today is not the day that I'm going to do that. Instead, I wanted to draw a saucy little burlesque/pin up thing. I watched Lilo and Stitch for the first time ever, and I really liked the style of the characters. They're very curvy and Lilo has such cute widdle stumpy fingers. So I wanted to draw something curvy, so here's what came down the pipes. I also wanted to draw something with a teeny hat, so there was that.

Wizards I'm Sure
Just when I thought I was out, the pulled me back in. Last summer, I was introduced to a game. A game that is played in the darkest of dungeons, the dankest of caves and the smelliest of basements. One that encourages tricks, surprises, and ruthlessly destroying your opponent. Magic the Gathering owned me for a good 2 months straight until I came out of the dungeon, blinking stupidly into the sunlight. School had started and I forgot about it. Well kind of. More like I was trapped under a pile of frames and watercolor supplies that made up my Degree Project. So my deck gathered dust, banished to the graveyard if you will.
And then I heard a friend of mine was getting into it, and like a moth to the flame I was drawn back towards it. Though, I'm not going to lie, it's a really fun game, and yeah, it may sound lame, but I'm woman enough to be okay with it. You could say I have
+5/+5 and shroud against ridicule :) In all seriousness though, if I could NOT draw like an eight year old, I'd love to illustrate for them, despite it being a nerdy card game, the illustrations really are beautiful. Even if you hate the game, check out the art.

Torando Warning
Apparently there was a tornado in Mass today. My friends and I watched the light show which by the way was INSANE. I've never seen such an intense storm. Luckily it's seemed to have moved around us. With lightning that nasty looking, I can only imagine that the thunder following it would make you shake rattle and roll.
Anyway, this is what I have for show and tell today.

Heat
So this sketch kind of deviates from the whole things you see in Maine. Because frankly, I didn't want to draw anything like that today. I was actually in a wedding today, on the coast, so my drawing time was limited. It being overcast, I never thought to put on sun block. Well, my poor, pasty animator flesh had a horrible reaction to being in the hazy sunshine for less than 2 hours and now my shoulders feel like they're on fire. But, it's a nice kind of simmering burn. I think over my art school career, I've become sun deprived, so this little binge will do me good. Or give me cancer. Let's hope for the former. Also, Hank.

Happy Little Trees
Like humans are made of 70% water, Maine is made of 70% trees. The other 30% is composed of beer and black flies. These sketches are actually for background ideas for Hank's world, but since he lives in a forest, and Maine is basically one giant great outdoors, I thought these went with the whole drawing things in Maine theme.

Old McDonald
There are so many farms around my neck of the woods. Though really, my part of the woods would be more like the torso as opposed to the neck, as it is pretty massive, and generally thicker than what one would imagine a neck of woods would be like. But I digress. Farms. They're everywhere. In fact, there is a big ol' dairy farm above my house, and corn fields as far as the eye can see on the way. It's what you could call scenic. Or the perfect setting for a great B horror movie. Tomato Tomato. That saying is not nearly as effective when typed. Maybe Tomato To mah toe?
But yes, farm animals. You'll see them. Hordes of them. And if you don't see any, you're probably not looking hard enough. I once saw a goat in the back of a man's pick up truck which went through the drive through of McDonalds.

The Fight of the Century
This is what happens when "Planet Earth" meets UFC plus Lucha Libre. Insanity. Also, so sorry for the late post. I've up and left for Maine for a few days, so I'm finding ways around not having my fancy scanner back home. Going along with that previous statement, sorry about the poopy scan quality, I also do not have Photoshop in Maine, so I can't touch up the images like I normally would to make them easier to see.
Anyway, enjoy. I kind of want to make this an animation, but for now it will live in my sketchbook.

Narwhallin'
I LOVE narwhals. They are the majestic unicorn of the sea. In fact, I don't think they get enough love.
I also think at some point, I want to do a fight poster based on the little nugget in the corner of this page, because I'm sure we all know of the rivalry between the unicorn and the narwhal. Maybe they need luchador masks? I haven't decided how ridiculous I want this to be, but it'll be coming down the creative pipes eventually.

Spooks and Such!
To attempt to cool off, I sat down and watched probably one of the more entertaining zombie movies I've seen in a long time. Dead Snow. Go see it. Seriously. Just when you thought zombies couldn't become more evil, they create Nazi zombies. There's great special effects and it's fun and campy, and in a way, it reminded me of Evil Dead. There was even a boom stick. Gotta love it.

Fwends
This bunch of characters are some of my bestest friends and future roommates next year!
Jeffrey laughs a lot, and it's contagious, and I love it. Gina makes this face sometimes and is quick on the draw. Tom is a model and I'm jealous of his ability to lift one eyebrow at a time. And Gus is, a dog. Basically, I'm excited for next year. It should be a good one. Now excuse me while I peel myself from my chair and continue to not move for the rest of the day. It's toasty out there.

Go To Doodle
So, today's doodle is a 'go to' thing I draw all the time. I'm currently working on a really cool project for a skill measuring test disguised as a video game, so today I don't have as much time to doodle as I'd like. But, in the spirit of drawing, I drew this thing. Squids are just fun to draw, what with their wacky wavy arms. I'm shocked I've made it 4 days in a row. I'm usually really bad at this blog thing, but it's fun and challenging to draw something every day that is not project related, although you could certainly argue that this blog is a project. I digress. Back to the grindstone!

Best Part of Waking up
An early post?! Woah! Bet you didn't see that coming eh? Me neither really. I'm a usually calm, peaceful person, kind of like Hank, minus the crazy amount of fur, but sometimes, I get frustrated. I also like making funny faces. So sometimes, when I'm in full rage mode, I'll draw funny, rage-y faces. The results usually make me smile, and I hope they do the same for you, so that your morning is better than mine. You're welcome.

Getting to Know You
I like Hank. I think he's swell. In fact, I think that I like his character so much, that an idea is a brewing. A good one. Well, maybe. But it's something! You'll be seeing more of Hank in the future. Maybe even tomorrow. I'm not sure. But today, my hands had a hankering to draw Hank.
Hank likes birds, and flowers, and other things that I can't think of yet. He's still in the works. But here are more sketches of Hank, and what makes Hank, Hank. Tomorrow I promise I'll draw something different. Maybe.
