Twice in one Day?!

Okay, I was too excited about this to wait. As promised, an animated sonic run cycle. Forgive me though, my animation skills are a tad rusty, it's been a LONG time since the last time I actually animated something. I may color this guy later, but for now, enjoy! :)

What day is it?!

Alright, clearly by now dear readers, you know that I am by far the worst blogger known to man. So it is not a surprise really, that I haven't posted anything in over a month. Egads!

In a pathetic move towards penance, please accept my humble drawings of dumb Sonic the Hedgehog running. That's right, not one, but TWO doodles today. Madness.

I guess it's more like angry Sonics running, but you wait, once I actually animate these things (hopefully tonight)they'll be plenty dumb. I clearly missed the bandwagon on this meme. But, I miss animating, and I love this thing so durn much I simply had to try my hand at a silly run cycle, what better way to get back into the swing of things right?

The Hero Gotham Deserves

So, I have become involved in a new game, and man is it a good one. Batman: Arkham City is the bee's knees. Or the bat's ankles. Something.
Anyway it rocks. A.) It has my all time favorite millionaire play boy and super brooder, Batman in it. B.) Mark Hamill once again strains his poor vocal chords to provide Joker's mocking and oh so hilarious dialogue. 3.) Never has traversing a city been so entertaining. For the first 15 minutes of game play, I shamelessly used the grappling gun to zip from building to building. Also, it's BEAUTIFUL.
Anyway, enough of gushing. Here is a lil' doodle of Batman. Just because.

Me Gusta Batman

Arkham City is awesome. I cannot even begin to describe how awesome it is. Well I could, but I'll save it for a later post, perhaps tomorrow.
Other than that, there's not much for me to say right now. I'll just leave this doodle here...

Detective-ing!

As you may have figured out by now, Batman is one of my favorite super heroes. Maybe even THE favorite. Here's a doodle of him being a detective and deducing something extremely important.

Batman?! Sweet Jesus!

I decided to purchase Batman: Arkham City. Boy howdy was that the best idea I've ever had.
Fun times. At the same time, my good friend Felisia and I started drawing super heroes in her sketchbook. They were drawn wrong, but oh so right. And thus began my drawing Batman bender. Forgive me for the flurry of Batman posts that is going to besiege you in the coming days.

In today's doodle, I combine two of my favorite things. Batman, and MEMES. The result is something like this. I imagine this is how the Dark Night may feel every time he gets to drive around in the Batmobile.

Monster Monday

Okay, so this is clearly a day late, but let us pretend for a moment that it is Monday shall we? Good.

I love monsters. I also love alliteration. And so, for however long I can stand to do this... I have declared Mondays to be "Monster Mondays". I'll draw a magnificent medley of moronic monsters to make your Mondays feel less mundane.
Perhaps more themes for the days of the week will pop up, I've already got a good'n for Sundays, but you'll just have to wait until then to see what I've got planned for you.

Anyway, dis here is the first monster.

Oh the Faces I know

Felisia makes this face, usually when I say something stupid, which means that she generally makes this face a few times whenever we hang out. Another person who's talent for making fantastic facial expressions is mighty impressive, and usually leaves me laughing like a fool. When we're not trying to make armpit fart noises, or making fart jokes, we like to toss around a few uncomfortable expressions. Yep, you'd be right in saying that we are pretty much 12 year old boys.

I'd also like to leave this here for some roommate love. It was their shining punims that originally inspired the whole, "doodle friends faces all silly-like".

On Making Faces

Some people have a talent for making great facial expressions. Bryan would be one of them. This is not his default expression, though it probably should be, because it's a good'n.

Rocketeer!

I recently watched the "Rocketeer", and let me tell you, I loved it. It had a few of my favorite things in it. Jetpacks, Nazi fighting, old fashioned insults (see chowder-head) and sweet pantaloons. Also Airships. Love me a good zeppelin.
Anyway, to switch things up, I drew said rocketeer, well kind of. I mostly just wanted to draw his awesome jacket.
Tomorrow, the caricatures of cool chums will continue.

Look at that Punim!

Clayton LOVED that mountain, don't let that scowl fool you.
Sorry for the less than awesome quality, ye olde phone camera seems to be having a hard time focusing. Will probably upload a real version later.

Larry

Larry is an encyclopedia of music. He knows it. Well. Every time I hang out with this guy, I learn about a new sweet band, and silently kick myself for not knowing it. In short, I bow to his vast collection of sweet tunes.

More Friends

Sticking with the theme of drawing those poor souls who were stuck with me for a weekend, here's Silvio. He ran up that mountain and conquered it so hard. Any mountain goat would have been proud.

In Which I Make Excuses

Gather 'round dear readers, and I'll tell you tale of most thrilling.
Not really, I don't have any excuse for not posting doodles except for the fact that 1.) Although drawing every day is actually easier than you would think, taking the time to capture said doodle somewhat decently and the proceed to post it on the intertubes is a feat that I am just not always able to tackle. 2.) If you will take a gander at exhibit A, you will see the reason that I don't always remember/ want to post things. I make a TON of these freaking things. Leaves little time for interwebbin'.

Anyway, here is more lumberjack guy. I'm itching to render him in Maya, but still lack the know how.

Der Derp Knight Rides Again!

I wicked want to animate this. It's going to happen, I promise, and links will be posted. Probably.

Hair-larious

You know it's going to be a good day, when you wake up, look in the mirror and laugh at your reflection. My hair does silly things sometimes. Okay, ALL the time. But it brings its A game in the morning.

In other news, not surprisingly I haven't posted for a few days. If anything, I'm reliable in the sense that I consistently don't post consistently.

Cartwheelin'

Character development for Hank's companion for an animated short I'll get around to doing, when I stop slacking off. Oy.

Adventure!

Over the weekend, I went on an adventure with some cool cats. We traversed some rough trails, scaled a mountain, climbed through some caves and ate delicious sandwiches. All in all, we were being super rugged and junk.
So I drew a lumberjack, because they're super rugged and junk too. Also, beards.

I'm taking a class on Maya software, and I plan on trying to render this sum' bitch in dat der progr'm. Perhaps I'll post a before and after image?

I'm Helping!

It's safe to post this now I suppose. This was a doodle done for a gift for a dear friend as a house-warming gift.
We have this joke that revolves around Batman or Wolverine being in weird situations screaming "I'm Helping!" when in fact, things are probably exploding or on fire all around them. It's funnier when you're there, I promise.

Anyway, this is Batman, and this is Wolverine. And this is how they help people make cookies!

Here are some critters. Sorry about the less than flash-tastic quality, my phone can only do so much.

Draw ALL the Friends!

So, I've decided that since I enjoy drawing people, and faces, I wanted to draw the faces of people that I enjoy. IE, my pals.
First up, one of the crazy kids that I went on adventures with in NH. Maggie. She's a pretty sharp lady, and a force to be reckoned with in TF2.

Here are some horses. Phew, this posting once a day thing is getting tricky again.

Moving Pictures

My dearest friend Jeffrey and I have a tradition. Well, it's two years running now, but it's tradition none the less.
Every October, we watch a disgusting amount of horror movies. One a day, every day. All October.
Last year when we first created this new tradition of ours, we approached it with the optimism and enthusiasm that belongs to the protagonist who rallies the survivors together against a zombie hoard. (They probably die shortly thereafter). Little did we know, we would be that character who dies gruesomely halfway through the movie. Probably that dumb chick who trips over her own feet while running away from the killer.
We were strong for a solid 3 weeks, but then lost our steam, and life slashed into our movie watching time.

This year, we are much like Sidney in the later Screams. We are prepared to deal with whatever comes our way. Actually, we have a plan. We have lists, sub-lists, and synchronized watches. And we are armed with the grim realization that watching a horror movie a day is actually really hard work. Especially when not all horror movies are created equally.
We also realize, that there are far too many movies out there to watch, and that it is only appropriate to start our Halloween Horror Hootenanny hastily. So we decided that September is just as terrifying as October.

You may see some inspiration from these movies splash into this blog, not unlike arterial blood onto the hero after the monster/killer/ghost/whatever attacks someone in their group. It won't be as messy though. Probably. Anyway, above are what I think of when I think of movies. Mostly food. Shocking.

No Sweat

As someone who hails from the North, I prefer cooler weather. I'm pretty sure this is no secret. So, when it's September, and it's 86 degrees and really humid, and I'm lugging my newly acquired bounty from Maine up a giant hill, I don't fare too well. Generally, what you'll see from me is something like the doodle pictured above.

When you pair these atmospheric conditions with consuming chili that requires the use of a haz-mat suit to prepare it, it's not pretty. However, I dominated bowl after bowl of delicious chili, and acquired a new skill. Fire breath. Every burp has been a painful reminder of the molten beef and bean mix that I consumed. Do I have any regrets? Only one. That I didn't eat more.

I would be lying dear viewers, if I said that I drew this today. I actually doodled this lil' something back when Boston was experiencing a heatwave of most sweaty proportions. So sometime in August(?). However, as you're well aware, I'm awful at blogging, and lazy. So this is what you get. Enjoy it. Or don't. Don't sweat about it. I've already done plenty of that.

In other blog news... send me doodle requests. It's not that I've run out of ideas, but I want to know what YOU want to see. Do it. I dare ya.

A Viking

You would think that while I was in Maine, I would have posted a doodle that was relevant. This is doodle is in fact absolutely related to my trip for two reasons. Some sources say vikings may have popped into Vacation Land briefly a long time ago.

Also, much like the vikings of old, I went a viking while in Maine. Specifically to my parent's vegetable garden and my bookshelves. I raided the shit out of them. Bounty was acquired, and as I journey back to Boston on the motorized equivalent to a longboat (bus), I feel like it has been a successful adventure.

Word to my Hobos

I have fond memories of Central Sq. for many reasons. Most of them revolve around working at a down and out art store there, and the many unique and colorful characters that would shop(lift) there. Many of these individuals would have puke stained shirts, smell like pee, and bark at customers. In my own weird way, I really liked them.

Der Derp Knight

It is no secret that I really like Batman. Well, maybe it was, but it is not anymore.
There are several Batman related things being released in the near-ish future I am SUPER pumped about. One, is the Dark Knight Rises movie coming out. I'm a sucker for Nolan Batman movies. Though the Tim Burton flicks have a very special place in my heart. Despite how terrible the Batman and Robin movie was, (I hated Poison Ivy so much) Arnold as Mr. Freeze, spouting awful one liners made it worth while to watch.
Second, is the Batman, Arkham City. The more I read about it, the more I cannot wait to get my greedy little mitts on it.

Anyway, I wanted to draw the Dark Knight one day, and this is what I got. I appreciate taking a character that is well known for being stoic, serious, broody, and generally not wacky, and designing them to be decidedly less so.

Bros Are in my Attic

If you aren't familiar with the term "bro", allow me to enlighten you. They are a class of dude, who have bad tattoos, listen to awful music, talk about game stats, drink enough beers to down a baby elephant, and have the social graces of a rhino. Also, every other word out of their mouths typically is "Bro" or "Dude".
My particular brood of bros love to wrestle at 2 am, throw bottles from their windows, and listen to bass heavy music. In short, they are a bunch of jack asses. And I don't toss that word around lightly. Usually I have an understanding with the bros. I take the same approach with them as I do with bees. I won't bother them, and they won't bother me.
Today's doodle is one that illustrates bros, at what they do best. Being Bros.

Blogger Who

Who's got two thumbs and is presumably the WORST blogger on the internets? THIS girl. Alright, I know, every recent post I have on here says something to the effect of 'yeah, I'm back on the wagon. I promise I'll update every day, blah, blah, blah."
Well, THIS time, I kinda mean it. Believe it or not loyal readers (or poor saps who have had the misfortune to stumble upon this wretched blog,) I HAVE been drawing nearly every day.

Enough of my lame excuses(lies).

If you are not familiar with the man pictured above, shame. Well, actually, not shame, because that could be my own fault for drawing him poorly. But for the sake of my argument, let's pretend for a minute that I can draw super well. This is David Tennant. He is the Doctor. As in from Doctor Who. I love him. He has crazy eyes, yells a lot, and when deep in thought while solving a mystery, wears incredibly adorable glasses. I chose this doodle for today for a very special reason.
A.) I am mildly pleased with the expressions in this sketch.
B.) Much like the Doctor, I will be traveling back in time, but without the aid of a Tardis. By that I mean, I will be adding sketches to this blog retroactively. So check 'em.

On Mustachios and Matured Men

You may not know this about me, but I have this strange love for old men. I love to draw them. A LOT. Also, I really enjoy mustaches, and replacing people's mouths with them.

This is a lil old man, who has appeared in my sketchbooks over the years. Those who have seen my sketchbooks from days gone by, may recognize him, but he's evolved a lot since his first incarnations.

At some point in the near future (i.e. when I get all my animation software up and running on my new laptop) I want to do some character animation tests with him. Because mustaches are SO FUN to animate.

Expressing Myself

I am a gal of many faces. Well, not really, I've only just the one. But I like to draw it in a variety of positions.
My new go to sketch is no longer a squid. It's now generally a face, usually mine, making weird expressions. More often than not, really awkward ones.

Cap'n Amurica

I went into the theater expecting this movie to suck major American balls. However, I was incredibly surprised by how fantastically entertaining it was! First of all, the costuming was spot on. The plot was what I was expecting of a superhero movie, as well as the fighting. My favorite part of this movie however, was the fact that there was a Stark in there, Tony Stark's grandfather I believe. Nearly every scene he was in had me cracking up/ squeeing like a sad fan girl.
Anyway, I wanted to doodle Captain America, because, well, that is what I do.

Rainbows & Sunshine

Long ago, roughly a year ago I think, I posted about unicorns and narwals, and how they are clearly ancient enemies, locked in battle. Well, I wanted to draw a picture of them all living in harmony. Also flying pigs.

Odds n' Ends

Mostly Odd(s)

These are some heating pad designs that I did, that just didn't quite make the cut.

Freudian Flies

Sometimes I draw bugs. It's rare, but it happens. Usually they turn out to be dragon flies, because they are the coolest of the bugs! I mean, LOOK at how cool these things are!

Anyway, while a good friend of mine was perusing my wares in my sketchbook. He paused at this page and was silent for a moment, then proceeded to comment, "Wow, I don't think you could make such a cute bug look ANYMORE phallic". I'm paraphrasing, but that's the gist. This was followed by reminiscing about his roommate's awesome habit of drawing cartoon peens, ala Superbad. But he did it WAAAY before the movie came out.

X-Men, Kindergarten Class

I saw X-men First Class forever ago, like when it actually came out. My mind was blown. Well, not blown, but thoroughly entertained. The guy who plays Magneto, Michael Fassbender(?). Badass. I recommend the movie. It's a fun summer flick, lots of big flashy fights, punches in the teeth, and sweet X powers. Also Mutants.
Anyway, I was wondering what it'd be like to have an X Baby.

Let the Sun Shine

It has been a sunny summer. And by that I mean, a very freaking sweaty one. Some days, when I would be walking home from work, well beyond the point of 'glistening', because girls obviously don't sweat, I felt like the sun was just hovering behind me, being a jackass and making these lame ass faces at me. I am clearly a fall and winter girl.

Howdy

Having been raised in the country, and around horses, I have a strong appreciation for cowboys, and western things in general. I'm talking mostly the equestrian aspect, barrel racing, horse shows, fancy hats, silver buckle, horses, etc. The idea of cowboys is so badass though, roughing it while you're herding cattle, endless hours trail riding through picturesque landscapes, eating loads of beans... I mostly just enjoy drawing silly cowboys and horses making funny faces. Well, really anything making funny faces, but horses especially.

Blame it on my childhood which consisted of mucking out stalls, grooming horses, trail riding, barrel racing and trail class. If memory serves, I could ride a horse before I could ride a bike. I was better at horseback riding anyway. Horses never ran into trees, and into ditches. Now that I have become a city slicker, the only thing I ride is the subway and the occasional bus. But I still look back on my cow girl days fondly.

Weird Science

It's funny how science has kind of pushed itself into my life, particularly engineering. After college, I did freelance work for an after school engineering program, and worked with some brilliant and creative kids and adults who I think will someday change the world in a profound way. Then, unexpectedly, I got a job at a university's college of engineering. Again, I work with some brilliant people and am always fascinated by what is going on in terms of the research that is happening around me. I may not understand everything there is to know about BME, ECE or mechanical engineering, but I can appreciate the design, creativity and problem solving aspects that go along with this territory. And then of course when people start talking robots, I get super excited. And then the cherry on top of this deliciously engineered cake, is a group of friends who are mostly engineers as well, that I love very much. I've come to accept, that I am surrounded by science and engineering as much I as am by art and design, and in so many ways, the two mix brilliantly together.

Anyway, after over hearing some grad students talking about their research experiences one day, I couldn't help but think of a mad scientist, with goggles that are just one or two sizes too small. Here's what I gots.

Allow Me to Introduce Myself

Some things you may or may not know about me.

1.) I grew up with mostly boys, and because of that, I am far from the delicate flower that is my namesake.
2.) I've got a pretty strong nerd streak, that always seems to resurface at the most inopportune moment. Example, at a staff lunch meeting, a staff member was discussing how much they walk during a leisurely stroll (upwards of 5 miles in one direction). In response, not considering the fact that I was among administrative professionals, I said, "That's not so much a "leisurely stroll" as it is a journey of "Lord of the Rings" proportion." I was met by blank stares, and then later, the stifled giggles of one informed office mate.
3.) I'm very bad at blogging every day.
4.) Despite #3, I enjoy it, usually.
5.) Humor is incredibly important to me, whether it's a great or lame, you've got it, flaunt it, someone is bound to laugh. Hopefully

Set Phasers to "Nerdy"

I am a shame to most of my nerd friends. At this point it's kind of a running joke that I have essentially not seen All the Things.
Well, I stepped up to the plate, and have embarked on a journey, to go boldly where no man has gone before. That's right, I've started watching Star Trek. I enjoy a good space adventure as much as the next girl, but what I really appreciate about the series so far, are the special effects. One of the aliens, is essentially a dog with some cardboard fins taped to it! I LOVE it. Also, I am always thoroughly entertained by Captain Kirk and the crew aboard the Enterprise.

Anyway, this is Kirk, he's a wicked horndog. There is also a splash of Spock too. He does not approve, as he finds Kirk's behavior highly illogical.

Bang Bang!

Western folks are fun to draw. If I were to do an animation that revolved around a Western town, these are probably what some of the inhabitants would look like. Note mustaches and fancy hats.

Thursday, August 18, 2011

Craft-tastic

As you may recall, I make heating pads, in super cute shapes, that make you want to cuddle them.
It has been a surprisingly successful undertaking, unfortunately though, I don't always have loads of time to commit to making these things. What is especially trying for me though, is making the SAME. GODDAMN. DESIGNS. In massive quantities. I'll usually try and bang out about 10 of these things at a time, until my fingers bleed and I realize that I've run out of thread halfway through a complicated stitch job (it's happened).
This is a visual of how I feel and probably look after one of these crafting benders.

Character Dump

I am a character designer through and through. I have an idea for an animation brewing in my skull, and the character is slowly starting to form. These are some process doodles for one of the characters.
I've noticed that my style has kind of changed. I hesitate to use the term 'evolved' because that would imply that it has improved in some sense, but regardless, it has changed since my Senior year Degree Project, and I'm totally cool with it.

Heating Pad Patterns

As many of you know, I like to draw silly monsters. These are more ideas for potential heating pads. I enjoy most of these designs, but find myself questioning whether other people would like them, and wonder how quickly they would sell. Does this mean I'm a sell out for caring about what other people think about my art and how accessible the design is to the general public? Maybe? Followed by the question, do I care? No, girls gotta eat.
